Brentwoodian 2019

70 The U15A cricket season was great as we met many team goals that we set throughout the season for example beating New Hall with only 10 men with Jacob Knightbridge getting 54 runs and 4 wickets whilst Christian Mootoo also got 3 wickets. We had a great cup run with many runs scored and lots of wickets and excitement all round the team. There were many mixed emotions throughout the season as we unfortunately lost narrowly to New Hall in the Essex cup but we did not let that get to us and continued on to do better throughout the season. As a team we would like to say thank you to Mr Long for coaching us throughout the season and good luck to him in the future cricket seasons. By James Dowsett U15 A We had a fantastic season in the U15B Team last year. We got the season off to a flyer with a 126 run victory over Bishop’s Stortford, with Sam Morgan, one of the key performers throughout the season, taking 4 wickets for just 11 runs. Another highlight was Connor Bartell’s innings of 21 despite injuring the Captain with an on drive at the non striker's end. This win was just the start of a great season where our team reached the final of the MESSSA Cup. One of the team’s greatest games was against Chigwell where undoubtedly the season’s greatest performance came from Rishal Narayan taking a triple wicket maiden with another wicket maiden and an innings of 49*. Our Cup run was the team’s highlight of the season where our greatest performance came against the Anglo European School. Despite a succession of quick wickets from the Anglo bowlers at the start of the innings Elliot Gravett stood strong achieving 42 runs and he was the man who stood up when the pressure was on the batsman. The game was mopped up by Sam Pepper and Harrison Hooker achieving 24* and 16* respectively. The victory in this game would not have been possible without our bowling attack of Sam Morgan, Alex Hung (taking 4 wickets), Sam Pepper, Lewis Smith, Lucas Penman, Emmanuel Olaniyan, Rishal Narayan, Harshil Gadikoppula, Joel Winter, Harrison Hooker and, of course, Baldev Colar, whose pace in the field and on the boundary was second to none. Josh Argent and Connor Bartell, two of our key batsmen, also stood up to the occasion achieving 31 and 22 respectively. Cameron O’Shea was always agile behind the stumps and in the game against Felsted he achieved an unbeaten score of 24. Oscar Graver proved to be both agile and trustworthy in the field. The season would not have been possible without the commitment and knowledge of Mr Prior and the whole team cannot thank him enough. By Sam Pepper U15 B After missing out on the Essex Cup the previous year, we came into the season looking to put our semi final defeat behind us. In our first game, we won comfortably against Bishop’s Stortford with a knock of 66 from Max Barton. High on confidence after the last week’s victory, we looked to beat a strong Berkhamsted side with our side containing a few A team debutants. However, we were comfortably beaten by 131 runs after one of their players scored a century. Comfortable wins against Forest and Bancroft’s by 56 and 40 runs respectively meant that we were to play RHS in a midweek fixture. This was a nail- biting game with Brentwood coming out on top by 5 runs, thanks to 4-40 from James Jupp and 99* from Thinod Balage Don. We then played Chigwell School in the First Round of the Cup with even contributions from the entirety of the team and this was followed up by a complete performance against Bancroft’s in the second round with William Howard stepping up a year group to score a match winning 68. We had now reached our third semi-final in as many years, looking to go on and win the competition for the first time. We lost the toss and were put into bat by a strong New Hall side. After a good opening stand between Thinod Balage Don and William Howard, we ended up on 128. We were confident about defending our score and we were even more confident after getting rid of their opening batsman in just the first over. We fought hard until the end, but unfortunately they got across the line with a couple of overs to spare. Although we just missed out on a cup final it was a good season all round and we would like to thank Mr Castleman for his commitment and excellent coaching of the team. By Thinod Balage Don U14 A
