Brentwoodian 2019

72 The U12 cricketers enjoyed a very successful season winning 11 out of 13 regular fixtures. The team were usually given a solid start by openers Daniel Green and Abinay James. Both finished the season with a batting average close to 40. They were always well supported by Oliver Noble and Nathan Killilea. Both these bats were capable of some big hitting when required. In the middle order James Radden, ‘the whirling dervish’ turned some games in our favour. His late hitting secured victory at Forest School when the match was tight. There were also some strong batting contributions from Dillon Colar and Sam Davis. In the fielding department Jake Sedgley, Archie Stronach and Ben Rowbury were always ready to poach a run out. In the bowling department Sofia Mitchell, Nathan Killilea and Abinay James were tight and consistent with averages of 6.6, 8.01 and 5.4. They were well supported by Ben Rowbury and Archie Stronach. Highlights of our season were key victories in Dubai early on. This was followed by an early win over Forest and also a good Cup run to the Essex final in which unfortunately we were not at our best. However, we reached the quarter final of the Reigate Sixes at the end of June for a good finish to the season. We must now look forward to the winter nets and prepare for another good Cup run next summer. By Mr Rees U12 CRICKET Throughout the year the U12A team has been positive and strong-minded about how we play our games. Even if we lose we learn from our mistakes and win the next game. All season we have had great performances such as Oliver Noble getting 48 not out and Nathan Killilea 5 wickets against Felsted. We achieved this because of hard work and commitment; we train at lunchtime and after school. We kept on pushing our limits and reached the Essex Cup final. We played every match as a team and we always encouraged each other. I would like to thank our coach, Mr Rees, for helping us throughout the season. By Abhinay James U12 A On behalf of the U12B team I would like to thank our coach Mr Siam for helping us train for all of our games. We worked so well as a team and impressively won 9 out of 10 matches. It's a super achievement for 13 boys who played together for the first time this season. Personally, I really enjoyed playing cricket for Brentwood School and feel proud that l was able to represent the School. If you have never played cricket before I would highly recommend it as a games option at school; we have the best facilities and coaches who help in developing cricket skills. A couple of the highlights of the season were when we won against Bishop's Stortford High School in less than 5 overs; one of my teammates took 4 wickets in 2 overs. My favourite moment was when we were playing Berkhamsted School; the game was slowly slipping away from us and we needed 3 wickets in 3 overs and they were quickly getting to the target. I spoke to my coach and I said “Can we do it?” and he said “You have only lost when the game is over”. I came on to bowl and I won the game for my team and I also compiled my first 5 wicket haul.
