Brentwoodian 2019

80 first time they have competed in such an event, the girls and boys gave it their all and set the tone for a great day of sport.  Special mention must go to the Fourth Year boys, who put in a very good team performance to secure 85 points for South, more than any other house. This was not only down to outstanding individual performances but a mighty team effort whereby thirteen boys all chipped in to beat all the other Houses.  The Third Year girls also competed very well contributing 55 points to our total. Strong performances from Millie Usher-Tollan and Claudia Moore did not go unrecognised. Both girls finished 1st in 800m and hurdles respectively. Having said this, the passion demonstrated from all the Third Year girls was especially uplifting.  Our Senior boys’ team managed to dig deep and come away with a significant haul of points. Toby Kidd demonstrated his love for long distance running, winning the 1500m by a considerable margin, even after competing in six other events! Ryan Fedi showed class and finesse during his efforts in the triple jump whilst Harry Gough demonstrated his strength in the shot put, placing 2nd. Overall, House Track and Field was definitely a day to remember. Whether you were on the track, raising money for charity or even commentating, the competitive spirit remained strong throughout. Hopefully next year we will come bouncing back, bringing our resilience to every event and maybe even being able to walk away with some silverware! Alongside all of these events, South House supported the local charity ‘First Step’. Based in Hornchurch, this charity provides support for families of children with special needs and disabilities. Throughout South House week, pupils from the Senior and Prep Schools donated unwanted toys, games, books and other gifts. The amount donated was remarkable, and several van loads of goods were collected by ‘First Step’ at the end of the week. These were then sold on eBay to raise a significant amount of funds for this extremely worthwhile cause. The House would like to thank all pupils and parents who took the time to make contributions. The South House motto is “Inclusivity”, one which is epitomised by the large number of pupils in the House who have participated in all of these events with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. I would like to thank them all for their efforts, as well as Mrs Davis and Mrs Ebden who provided continual encouragement and support in their roles as Assistant Heads of House. We look forward to another exciting year of House events! By Mr Long
