Brentwoodian 2021

133 He engaged with pupils of all levels, bringing his love of languages to over a hundred residential trips in the process. Mr Walton didn’t enter the profession just to teach and his contribution to Brentwood went well beyond the Languages Department: as Public Examinations Officer, Weald Assistant Housemaster, Head of Chess, Cricket Umpire and even at one point, so we are told, as a Teletubby… Mr Walton’s approach to working at Brentwood combined the best elements of tradition, pragmatism and innovation. Many of us, past and present pupils and staff, the School itself, owe him a great deal and we are very hopeful that he will be back with us at some point in the not-too-distant future. Mr Dean was with us for six years, during which time he successfully led the Economics Department as seen by the increased popularity of the subject and some outstanding results at A Level and IB. As Head of Digital learning he also contributed significantly to the development of IT, and was instrumental in making us a Google School. He also helped substantially with our sports programme where he was a successful and popular coach of our 5th XI footballers. Mr Dean moves on to a promotion as an Assistant Head at Westcliff High School where he will, no doubt, be a great success. Good luck Mr Dean. leaving STAFF Mr Dean
