141 Our new Head of South House, Miss Hanly also joins us as a teacher of English. Ms Hanly strongly believes that English is a subject in which real life and big dreams meet. In this subject we learn empathy, understanding and broaden our world view as we get to experience people, places and situations to which we may never be exposed in reality. It is also a space where boundaries can be pushed, and creativity and individuality can be explored and celebrated. As part of her role as Head of South House, Ms Hanly feels that leading a House is an opportunity to see young people beyond the bounds of classroom walls. They can explore their interests, overcome their fears, and show off their talents... and she gets to have the privilege of being one of their greatest supporters! Ms Hanly knew she wanted to be a teacher, as she was born into it...literally! Both of her parents are teachers and she grew up on school campuses in Zimbabwe. So when it came to choosing a career, she felt it was right to follow in their footsteps! Ms Hanly is an advanced open water scuba diver. She also loves going to the theatre, and she is passionate about travelling to new places. Lastly, she is an avid reader and enjoys spending time outdoors. One her greatest achievements to date is being part of the founding team that set up an international school in Thailand. Joining Staff
