It is difficult to put into words how special the inclusive, fun and supportive culture that has organically grown among the school ski team over the past year truly is. However in these brief paragraphs, I will try to encapsulate it…. Parents, pupils and staff equally and hugely enjoy Tuesday evening training for a wide range of reasons from homemade cookies to increased confidence on the slopes. Beginning with the pupils, the team continues to expand and we welcomed our first ski racers from the Prep School in September 2020 - Henry Pratt, Juliette Toms, Scarlett Pratt, SamWilliams, Agatha Wightman, Aoife Burke and Gabriella Travers - siblings of current Senior School team members. At the same time a significant number of newYear 7s joined the team. The team created two training groups, a racing group and a developing group, who were able to train every week through the Michaelmas term with our amazing coaches, Steve and Chris, at Brentwood Ski Centre. On 12th December 2020 nine Brentwood racers entered the National Schools League in a race event hosted in Brentwood ranging from experienced racers to the dedicated and passionate Austin Measday competing in his first ever race outside of training! Well done, Austin! Scarlett Pratt (U10), Juliette Toms and Henry Pratt (U12), Harry Toms, Sam Kingsley and Max Kingsley (U14), Rory Peskett (U16) and Captain Ollie Sparks (U18) all qualified to be invited to the national final! Spurred on by this success, in January, we were ready to recruit more widely from the Prep School, strengthen this connection even more and look into entering National Competitions. Unfortunately lockdown returned and put these plans on hold. In the spring, with the news the ski centre would be open again and due to the demand of the super enthusiastic pupils and their parents, skiing became a summer sport as we completed Ski team 44
