52 This was another very successful year for the School golf team. Having regularly reached the national finals of the Independent Schools Matchplay tournament in recent years, hopes were high, especially with a team with lower handicaps than at any time in memory. A convincing win by the A team (Captain Max Porteous, Sam Epstein and Pierce Mosley) against Haileybury set up a semi-final against New Hall at theWarren GC. Max Porteous won his match 5 and 4, but unfortunately Sam Epstein and Pierce Mosley both lost narrowly in tense matches which produced some outstanding golf from both teams. The School B team (Henry Linley, Edward Linley and Joe Ludlow-Gibbon) played superbly against Bedford School, forcing the match into a playoff, but we succumbed at the first play-off hole due to a superb ‘up and down’ from Bedford. Covid restrictions prevented the HMC Foursomes regional rounds from taking place, but the organiser invited all schools to take part in a two-day national final, held at Huntercombe GC at the end of the summer term. The team performed superbly, finishing eighth out of the 42 schools who took part. Max Porteous and Sam Epstein recorded one of the highest scores for an individual pairing - 32 points, which is no mean feat in foursomes golf on a course neither player had played before. Golf This term has begun with some outstanding results. With further handicap cuts over the summer, five players hold handicaps of scratch or close to it. In the early stages of the ISGA Matchplay, the A team beat Haileybury 3-0 and the B team beat New Hall by the same margin. This has set up a titanic regional semi-final between our A and B teams. The most remarkable result so far has come in the first round
