Brentwoodian 2021

61 Despite Covid, we made a good start last year by introducing one-to-one talks for Years 9 and 11 before they made their options, by introducing Unifrog to Year 11 instead of waiting until Lower Sixth, by organising university talks by Birmingham and Plymouth for our Year 11 and Lower Sixth students and by holding a Virtual Careers Fair. We have already got lots of exciting things organised for this year ranging from talks for Year 8 upwards to individual one-to-one careers advice sessions for Year 11 students and (Covid permitting) a return to a full Year 11 Work Experience Programme in June 2022. In April, we committed to meeting the prestigious Quality in Careers Standard, which incorporates the Gatsby Benchmarks. This is the national quality award for careers education, information, advice and guidance provision. In order to achieve this, we work in partnership with universities, employers, apprenticeship providers, alumni, local authorities and the Prospects Service in order to ensure that our students access the most appropriate education, training or employment for their needs at every stage of their education at Brentwood School. We are very proud that every year the majority of our students are accepted to their first choice of university, however we recognise that university is not for everyone and we are equally proud of our students who pursue different routes, whether these be apprenticeships or directly into the workplace. Our triple Sixth Form pathway (A Level, IB and BTEC) ensures that all of our students can study in the way that suits them best. The success of our Careers Programme is being measured by student feedback and destination data, which will enable us to update the programme annually to reflect this. I look forward to meeting you all at some stage of your Brentwood School life. By Mrs O’Connell
