64 The Academic Enrichment programme remains strong to this date at the School, and last year was no exception. Despite COVID, we were able to maintain our usual programme of exciting Junior Colloquium, JSABs and SABs talks as well as debates, whether it be considering the ethics behind dictatorships or merely learning a little more about gothic literature. One initiative we were able to begin amidst the virus was the Enrichment Magazine: this helped students and staff in the School to write and express their opinions and ideas regarding any topic of their interest in a magazine highly popular with the Brentwood community. The magazine published three intriguing issues discussing the topics of anything: colonising Mars, your mind, or the use of film music and mathematical problem solving in video games. It was truly thrilling to produce and there were some really interesting questions being answered, most notably ‘How do we learn languages’ and the highly contentious article, ‘Cats vs. dogs?’ (I’ll leave you to decide the answer to that one). Of course, as this year drew to a close, we said farewell to Mrs Sharpe, a teacher who inspired so many students including myself to get involved with the Enrichment programme and learn more about interesting topics and subjects around our studies. In addition to this, Mrs Sharpe ran exciting trips for example to the beautiful Leiston Abbey where we had the chance to do workshops, masterclasses and other engaging activities, all in the rural and historically enchanting setting of Leiston. I’m sure I speak for all when I say she will be sorely missed. So, having come away from this year working to put together this magazine, it has reminded so many students, including myself, about the importance of learning outside the classroom, and broadening your knowledge beyond ordinary learning in your subjects, especially for areas you are passionate about.
