70 A Total of 145 Pupils across last year’s Year 10 and 11 have completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award successfully. In June the students completed their assessed expedition in Danbury, where they navigated through many woodlands and walked alongside the River Chelmer on some of the warmest days of the year. The students camped overnight putting their camp craft skills to the test and a few students created a fire from scratch which was impressive! In the lead up to their expeditions, they attended regular training sessions virtually covering essential expedition skills such as First Aid, Navigation and Campcraft. They also worked in their groups to plan their routes using the eDofE mapping software. The expedition Section is only one section of the Award; in addition, the participants have also been busy developing new skills, improving their fitness and helping out in local communities as part of their Skill, Physical and Volunteering sections. Some of the students had to change their activity during the pandemic so they could complete the Award from home, including such things as home workouts, learning to play an instrument and cooking for the family. The students should feel proud of their contributions and achievements. By Miss Preston Silver
