Brentwoodian 2021

76 the regular in-school activities, I have attended a RAF 100 STEM course, where I was awarded a Silver Crest Award, I attended Junior Cadre, in which I was named Best Junior Cadet, and then I attended the Air Cadet Leadership Course, where my flight was awarded Best Flight. Each of these experiences has not only granted me ample skills and experience that have been demonstrated through numerous awards but have also shown me the importance of community and organisation when working as part of a team. These are skills that I know will serve me well when in leadership roles beyond my secondary school experience. Furthermore, the extra opportunities I have undertaken include participating in flying a Tutor plane and shooting with rifles on a 25m range – both of which were lessons in control and discipline and were overall great experiences to have had with my fellow cadets. I have also had the privilege of participating in the Air Squadron Trophy Competition twice, marching with the Mayor for our annual Remembrance Parade in Brentwood and being appointed as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of Essex 2020-21 and Cadet Warrant Officer 202021. Through each of these experiences, I have been able to grow my knowledge of the Royal Air Force, develop my community engagement skills and enjoy each moment with my fellow cadets along the way. Overall, my best advice to new cadets would be to take every opportunity that you can, use the fantastic support provided and put your best effort into each aspect of the CCF (ultimately, you get out what you put in). My passion for CCF would not have developed as it did without the guidance I have received from my Section Commander and Section Officers to staff from the RAF Test Evaluation and Support Team. The have all had an individual impact over the five years, ranging from a very patient Drill Instructor who taught us how to march and polish our shoes perfectly, to a Sergeant from the Special Air Service (SAS) who ran through a scenario-based mission with us — each officer and volunteer has dedicated their time, skills and experience to helping each cadet to reach their potential, for which I am very grateful.
