Brentwoodian 2021

80 Friday training continued to plan and as has become the norm, the Basic SNCOs taking charge of the new Fastrack cadets. Basic CSM Max Scourfield supported by CQMS James Maltby did an excellent job in getting these new joiners up to speed for their role in the contingent and most notably the Army Coy. Cadre Coy led by CSM Neo Merrell supported more than ably by CQMS Ines Mason started their method of instruction term. Thanks must go to ASSI CSgt Sell who led the method of instruction lessons over Zoom in order to capture the whole of Cadre Coy with these vital lessons. Cadre Coy continued the Michaelmas term preparing and practising their Army syllabus lesson delivery. I would like to thank the G1 and G7 appointments, Lauren Ager, Millie Chart, Lily Jeffrey, Elisabeth Olayia, Lucy Hodgkinson and Simran Sahani. Without their continued support over the difficult Michaelmas term, the Army would have been much more difficult to administer. It goes without saying how the Lent term was affected but online CoCurricular land continued with a real variety of Army-based activities being advertised on this Google site. I must say a big thanks to all the staff and SNCOs who supported the Army in producing activities over this remote time. Needless to say many events had to be cancelled or put on hold. We did manage to have two Field Days in the Trinity term where Cadre cadets were able to go, along with many of the NCOs, to Mereworth Woods training area in Kent for a day’s training which included section attacks, weapons training and sniper stalk to name a few. I would like to particularly thank 2Lt. Swettenham and 2Lt. Revels for all the excellent work they did in Trinity term and in the planning and preparation for the Field Days. Our plans for a summer camp were hopeful and we planned for a week at Cherry Tree camp at FridayWoods, Colchester. Unfortunately, the plans to stay overnight at the camp were dashed and so we set about making the best of a difficult situation and planned two days training at FridayWoods and a day on the school grounds supported by a Paintball and Laser Tag session at the Secret Nuclear Bunker. This ended with a celebration back at school including an al fresco meal on the open air stage. By Mr Kiff
