Brentwoodian 2021

98 and Squash were all on the cards. The Lower Sixth Quiz was the headline for South here. Two qualifying teams got South underway with two wins from two. The first fixture saw a strong team including Jess Ellis, Kerys Walton, Sam Pepper and Connor Bartell put out a nail-biting 80-70 victory against geographical rivals North. This was followed up by a convincing 70-30 win against Weald by a team consisting of Millie Stacey, Rosie Keane, Christian Jeronimo and Alex Mead. This meant that we automatically progressed to the final against a tough opponent, East. The team put out in the Final consisted of Kerys Walton, Sam Pepper, Alex Mead, and Connor Bartell. Despite a valiant effort, South was overwhelmed by the incomprehensible minds of Mayukha Rodrigo, Joanna Burgess, Eleanor Whiskerd and Jess Smith By Alex Mead and Louisa Allen It was so fulfilling to see so many pupils from South House getting involved in Track and Field, competing in every event with such courage and determination. I am proud to say that overall South House finished in third place, with Year 8 girls contributing the largest amount of points [86] to the final total which was 648 points. This was followed by the Year 9 boys who contributed 81 points. I would like to give a special congratulations to Lizzie Oliver who raced in the Year 8 girls’ hurdles for achieving a school record of 12.69 seconds. I would also like to mention the relay teams that managed to make the top three for their year groups. The Year 8 boys and Sixth Form girls placed third, and the Year 7 girls and Year 9 boys placed second. The were some exceptional individual performances. Ben Hocking in Year 8 won both his track events, running the 300m in 45:78 seconds and the 1500m in 5:48:00 minutes. Two boys fromYear 9 performed brilliantly in the middle distance races. Robert Godley won the 800m with a time of 2:16:47 minutes. Matthew Godley won the 1500m with a time of 4:47:00 minutes. Field events also played a large role
