U13 After a disrupted year before, due to Covid we were all very excited to start playing rugby again. We all joined in with pre-season training to get ourselves ready for the season ahead, before taking on Westcliff High School for Boys in the first game of the season. We had a few warm-up games against Sutton Valence, Campion and Richard Hale, before we took part in the U13 Essex Waterfall Festival at Barking Rugby Club, where the top two teams qualified for the Essex finals day to be hosted at Brentwood School. We worked extremely hard to get ourselves ready for this and, like the good old English saying “Hard work pays off”, we managed to qualify for Finals day later in November. The following few weeks we played fixtures against Langley Park High School for Boys, Royal Hospital Ipswich and Bishop’s Stortford High School before the Essex Finals festival. It was a fantastic atmosphere to host, playing against schools from across Essex and the standard of rugby was very good. Unfortunately we lost in the semifinals of our competition against Woodlands School in a very close game 15-0. This set us up for the rest of the season and we managed to secure some great victories over the following few weeks against Bancroft’s, Fitzwimarc and Dartford Grammar. Unfortunately a few of our year groups matches were cancelled, due to students testing positive for COVID, but luckily everyone was back to full fitness to take on RGS Colchester in the last game of the season. It was great to play so many matches against other schools and to play against teams with a similar standard and ability to us. Thank you to all our coaching staff who helped us develop through the season and gave us opportunities to play in A to D team fixtures throughout the year.
