individual UCAS Hub, in which they log information about their career pathway and potential future. The new Brentwood School Careers Programme is aimed at exceeding government-set standards in order to give students the best opportunities possible. The career availability given to students is a direct source of their future achievement, and the Brentwood School Career Programme provides them with such availability. By Mrs O’Connell (edited by Aaron Mee) In 2021-22, for the first time in many years, Brentwood entered Schools Challenge, the national schools’ quiz competition, at both Senior (Year 9 upwards) and Junior (up to Year 8) levels. Brentwood were apparently senior National champions in 1982, and the format has not changed since then, being almost identical to University Challenge, although questions are now distributed by email and ancient buzzer sets have been replaced by an online buzzer system accessed through pupils’ iPads. After trials to select a senior squad of 20 pupils, and a few weeks of squad practice, the Senior competition started in November. Our team - Captain, Joanna Burgess (Upper Sixth), Mayukha Rodrigo (Upper Sixth), Connor Miles (Year 10) and (alternating) Gracie Coppell and John Barry (Year 9) dominated in their first two matches, against Southend High School for Boys and KEGS, Chelmsford. Victory in a nail-biting regional final against Richard Hale School 206
