Brentwoodian 2022

conservation activities at RHS Hyde Hall. In June, our first day was spent at Barrow Farm RDA, helping to clear woodland, and the second day allowed all students to be teaching assistants in two primary schools in the local area. As previously mentioned, we were not able to run our annual Christmas party for the elderly this year, so once again we put together hampers of donations and delivered them to those in the community. However, it’s not just the VSA group that has been working on outreach and action. For the first time, we had our Year 8 Eco Action rotation! This series of sessions focused on the importance of biodiversity and sustainability, and saw students make bird feeders, wildflower seed bombs and bug hotels each week, before thinking up their own creation to help local wildlife. Working with the younger years has been so successful that we are not only continuing this rotation next year, but now also have a service programme for Year 7 and a new set of taster sessions for Year 9! I am so pleased and proud of all the staff and students who have contributed to the VSA, and its sub-groups, this year, and it really is clear that our impact in the School continues to grow. A big thank you to our Senior Leaders, too, for being inspirational examples to younger students, and for also keeping our website and social media pages constantly updated! I look forward to reporting on what we achieve in the next year. By Mrs Claudia Hardy 210
