Brentwoodian 2022

MUSIC at Brentwood This academic year has been one of considerable musical development and success within the School. Numerous individual achievements, often on the national stage, and a huge programme of musical performances throughout the year (over 70 concerts, services and musical engagements) have provided our students with a plethora of musical experiences, which have enriched them academically and socially, providing them with lifelong memories. It must be said that the joy of returning to live performance and audiences, following the COVID hiatus, has added an energy and edge to everything on stage this year and has affirmed to us all, why music education is so vitally important. The first musical event of the year, as is our tradition, was House Music which this year was an exciting and close competition adjudicated by Ms Rosie Whitfeld, Head of the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama. With little under three weeks of rehearsal and all music rehearsed, organised and performed entirely by the student body, the resultant musical spread was of an unbelievably high quality. The overall winner in this final year of our six House format was East House, which also took first place in the Unison category, while Partsong was won by South, and West was deemed the winner of Ensemble. Ms Whitfield, who works with many independent schools, commented that it was the best House Music Competition she had ever seen - with over 400 pupils involved; it truly was a night to remember. 56
