Arch Sinfonia, a professional London Orchestra conducted by the superb Chloe Van Soeterstede. This project allowed musicians within the local area to perform in a masterclass setting alongside professional musicians, culminating in a spectacular performance enjoyed by an appreciative audience. We then enjoyed a range of weekly concerts in our Memorial Hall including live drumming, Jazz & Poetry and another highly anticipated Chamber Concert featuring a range of solo performances. Our Chamber Choir, which was in exceptional voice, was invited to perform at a joint Evensong in Clare College, Cambridge; the Choir sang side by side with an inspiring choir, more than holding their own and thoroughly enjoying this enriching and inspiring experience. Perhaps the most highly anticipated evening of the year came in late February when we were pleased to welcome back the much-acclaimed ‘Seven Steps Big Band’ for our ‘Battle of the Big Bands’ Concert in a sold-out Wessex Auditorium. Here, the school Big Band was treated to an evening of inspirational playing, as well as being given the opportunity to perform some joint numbers, sharing the stage with professional musicians. The Music Department enjoyed its finest and busiest time of the year at the end of the Lent term, when two major musical events demonstrated the true prowess of Brentwood School music. Firstly, a magical evening was had by all at the Lent Concert: memorable performances from the Junior Band, Junior Choir, String Orchestra and a rousing Big Band finale left all in attendance eager for more.
