Brentwoodian 2022

The First XI hockey team had a superb season which was filled with success and enthusiasm from every player. As a result of hard work and determination, the team maintained an impressive record of results, winning 11 fixtures and drawing in seven hard-fought matches, out of a total 20 games played. The collaboration of each individual player’s efforts culminated in a memorable season for hockey at Brentwood School. When facing any challenges we always persevered. This is evident in our two losses of the season. Having experienced a 0-2 result against Bancroft’s School at the beginning of the season, we optimistically bounced back when we faced them a month later in a well deserved 0-0 draw. The 1st XI team has been the epitome of resilience, always reflecting on our mistakes and looking forward to the next game. The second loss we experienced against Reigate Grammar School was far from a defeat. Despite a 0-3 result, us girls had the opportunity to play against very talented players; the majority of them represented their county and one midfield player represented England. We as a team learnt from their skills and came away from the game with our heads held high. The team this year cooperated seamlessly, motivating each other with support and carrying out every training session with vigour. We were lucky this season to welcome a very talented group of Year 11 girls, who were all extremely passionate about helping the team reach the Regional Finals; they made a huge impact. Maddy Austin used her incredible skills on the ball to score multiple great goals, as well as Amelia Horton who used her speed along the left side of the pitch to weave her way through 1ST XI HOCKEY "Her courageous attitude, sturdy stance and quick reactions achieved an unbelievable goal difference" 74
