Myland Community Council Annual Report 2020
CHAIRMAN’S ANNUAL REPORT 2019 – 2020 Welcome! It is, in the midst of the current pandemic, difficult to remember that the last two months were only a part of the Council’s year. Such is the effect on our lives and community. I would like to express on behalf of us all our sincere condolences to those of you who may have lost loved ones. I would also wish to express our grateful thanks to all the essential workers for their support to our community and especially to all the medical staff who have tirelessly worked to care for us at this time, thank you all. We are also grateful to those in our community who have rallied round and helped vulnerable neighbours and volunteered where possible. The sense of community is palpable and, as such, a reassurance to us all. The month of May sees the close of the Municipal year and we would have had both the Annual Community Meeting and the Council’s Annual Meeting. Sadly, both of these events have been postponed until May 2021. This has created the unusual position that all Council office holders will remain in their positions until May 2021. Although we have closed our Council Office and cancelled all face to face meetings, the work of the Council continues, albeit remotely. In the first two weeks of the COVID-19 crisis our Planning Committee received 18 planning applications to consider and comment on, an unprecedented number at any time. This time of year is also an important one financially as returns are required to be filed. We are fortunate that our Clerk to the Council Katherine Kane has this all in hand. Last May was election time for all of our Councillors. We are now up to full strength of seventeen Councillors. We have continued with our ‘greening the parish’ project and had another successful giveaway of trees, shrubs and bulbs. I would like to thank those residents who sent us photographs of the maturing flowers.
