Myland Community Council Annual Report 2020

We are also responsible for the drafting and monitoring of the annual budget for full Council to consider and agree which affects the request for funds and the precept paid by our residents as part of their Council Tax. During the last financial year the Committee focused on: Regular reviewing of finances as an essential part of our role and this year we have focused on ensuring our reporting is understandable, can be closely monitored and is clearly actionable as well as having in place the necessary governance for handling of funds. Our precept (the amount you pay towards what we do through your Council Tax) continues compares well with the charges of other Parish, Community and Town Councils and will enable MCC to continue to support the many local organisations, and address needs of residents as well as making positive changes to make our parish a better place and community within which to live. We can meet our statutory obligations as a local authority and have set aside contingency funds. Financial Planning includes money set aside for expected Community Centres, meeting the costs of planned Community events and the printing and distribution of our Quarterly newsletter “The Mylander” as well as meeting our overheads and using existing restricted reserves for on-going projects such as Greening our Parish and Myland Mapping. Reviews of on-going contracts have been completed to ensure they remain appropriate and value for money. Looking after our Myland assets; We have entered a new contract for cleaning of bus shelters which we hope will make a visible difference to the way you see them as well as allowing MCC Street Officer Herbert Duin to focus on hotspot litter areas in addition to his normal rounds in all areas of Myland. Council have also approved a survey of our offices at 101 Nayland Road. This will look at the likely future costs of maintenance enabling us to develop a 5 year budget. We will continue to look after Myland by prioritising litter collection, recycling supplies and maintenance.
