Myland Community Council Annual Report 2020
The aim of the committee is to help create and maintain a strong community within Myland, to communicate and reach out to residents and help show what the Council does. Following on from the elections in May we started work on various projects beginning with the installation of the new ‘Lest We Forget’ bench at the war memorial on Mile End Rd. The location was carefully chosen following a public vote through social media and by asking residents in person. At the end of August we held our annual fete which was a huge success with even more visitors, 64 stalls and fantastic weather. The MCC stall was very popular with many people dropping in to say hello and asking questions about local issues. Over £1700 was raised on the day, all of which has been distributed to worthwhile groups and causes in the local area. In November we held our annual spring bulb giveaway with over 2000 bulbs of different varieties going to local households, schools, preschools and organisations. The CEC established the Health and Wellbeing Working Group, chaired by Cllr Law, to help improve physical and mental wellbeing for residents. The group will work with community organisations to support residents through training and raising awareness of the different services and facilities available in the community. The Community Engagement Committee meets on the Third Monday of every month at the MCC office at 101 Nayland Rd and the meetings are open to the public so all welcome to come along and see what we do.
