10 Council Reports Community Engagement Beyond the Mylander - keeping in touch Cllr Lindsey Ilsley, Myland Community Council’s Community Engagement Lead, talks about work they’re doing to develop how the council shares news and updates and how to share your feedback and views. As this is the final edition of the Mylander it feels like a good time to tell you about work I’ve recently started to develop our communications and community outreach. Hopefully the project will inform the council’s understanding of who lives and works in Myland, and improve how we share and receive updates with you. First let me briefly introduce myself; I joined Myland Community Council earlier this year. I’ve lived in Myland for almost three years and since moving here have greatly admired the caring and commitment of our local community councillors. I feel so proud to now be part of that work. I’m currently on a career break, looking after my young family, but usually I work in the charity sector advising on how to use good communications to strengthen community and so staff can see how their amazing work makes a big difference. For me, community is vital. I grew up in a village where everyone played a part in making it a safe and happy space everyone could belong in. I’ve been passionate about community and volunteering ever since! In the coming months I’ll be finding out more about Myland, building a picture of who lives and works here. I’ll be looking at the different ways residents like to receive news and updates, and the kind of information people prioritise, want and need. This research will help us plan. It will tell us the best ways to reach you and how we can get important information to you quickly and effectively. Hopefully it will also increase councillor visibility so you know who we are, what we’re doing and how to get in touch with us when you need to. I’d love to hear from you!
