7 Council Reports Now with the National Highways in the vicinity repairing one bridge, could they possibly erect another one! It’s a long shot, but worth a try. As a fall back position the A12 widening from Chelmsford to Marks Tey is expected to continue from Colchester northwards – probably several years from now. Myland Community Council has already registered our interest with National Highways regarding a potential bridge over the A12. Staying in the northern part of Myland, Footpath 231 just beside the Cambian Fairview Hospital, a development of more than twenty houses is about to commence. Footpath 231 was another victim of the routing of the A12 to the north of Colchester in the 1970’s and now only runs for about one hundred yards from Boxted Road until it meets the A12. Our vision is for it to be extended through the Countryside Homes development and Chesterwell, creating a footpath running all the way around north Colchester. We will be keeping a close eye on this one. Now that the clocks have gone back it can’t be long until the Boxing Day Walk – a six (-ish) mile stroll around Myland, through High Woods Country Park, beside the Golf Course and past Chesterwell Woods. We will meet at 10am at the War Memorial on Thursday 26th December. Hope to see you there! The report is one of a series resulting from archaeological examination of various sites in the Chesterwell development. The archaeological work is funded by Mersea Homes, who has also given permission for use of the reports produced. The work referred to below was carried out in 2018, prior to build of residential, commercial and community buildings. From earlier site examination by geophysical survey, site walking and test trenching, two possible areas of prehistoric activity were identified. Further detailed
