Mylander - Issue 83
12 (FP29 Colchester), which goes underneath the A12 and provides a fantastic view of the Seven Arches Bridge. It is also possible to walk in the other direction, over the river and east towards the old swimming pool and Castle Park – and eventually along the Wivenhoe Trail (FP234 and FP130 Colchester, and FP8 Wivenhoe), to Wivenhoe. It is great to walk alongside the River Colne in the evening with the sun setting behind you, and the ducks and moor hens swimming in the river beside you. Another area I never tire of exploring (for the umpteenth time), is High Woods Country Park. This is such a huge park – 150 hectares, (over 370 acres!) – which means that you can explore many different walks every week of the year. There are marshlands to the south, coppices with sweet chestnuts, wooded glades, ancient woodland, adventure playgrounds, (sorry, closed at the moment), ancient earthworks and a stream running north/south through the entire parkland via a small lake which isn’t far from the visitor centre. There are loads of entrance points – no need to drive! - on Turner Rd, Mill Rd, from Highwoods and from the two tunnels under the railway (FP73 and 98). You can find out about these public footpaths, and any others in Essex by clicking: https://www.essexhighways.org/transport-and-roads/ interactive-maps-and-live-travel-information/highways-information-map.aspx I hope your appetite for exercise has been whetted, there is plenty to choose from - but stay local for now! Stay well and stay safe. Cllr Robert Johnstone Council Reports
