Mylander - Issue 83

From inside the community Mill Road Surgery Hello, apologies for my absence in the last edition. I hope you are all well and have got through the winter without too many coughs and colds. It has seemed a very long winter but at last we have been getting some lovely weather. COVID-19 By now you have all seen guidelines on the media regarding reducing the risk of coronavirus. Hand washing with soap and water whilst singing ‘Happy Birthday’ twice is the most effective way of preventing the spread of the virus. If hand washing facilities are not available then alcohol gel is the next best thing. Try not to touch your face with your hands. Please stay at home and only come to the surgery if absolutely necessary. GP’s are here to return your calls and will see you in the surgery if they deemurgent. Nurses are seeing patients for children’s immunisations, hormone injections, urgent blood tests and ECG’s, dressing and removal of sutures. If you need to see a nurse for something that is absolutely necessary or urgent and you are shielding at home we may be able to visit you. If you normally get your medication from our dispensary and you are classed as vulnerable and are shielding at home we may be able to deliver your medication. Please contact the dispensary. If you think you may have the virus, PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY, phone to speak to a GP or access NHS 111 online for advice. At the moment all summer holidays are either cancelled or on hold. If you are planning on going abroad later in the year and would like advice, please fill out a travel form at least eight weeks before you travel. The forms are available from reception or can be completed on our surgery website. We will do our best to complete an assessment and contact you at least four weeks before you travel. Typhoid, Tetanus and Hepatitis A vaccines are available free on the NHS, other travel vaccines are classed as a private vaccine and incur a cost. Travel advice and vaccines can also be obtained from private travel clinics, e.g. Boots, Superdrug. I hope you all enjoy the spring weather and remember, keep washing your hands!
