Mylander - Issue 83
5 Chairman’s Report I am writing this report from the relative quiet of my home as we, like the rest of you, are in isolation. I had already written the report for this magazine in late January, little realising that we would be in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. I realise that this is a very difficult time for our community and indeed elsewhere. We are being asked to make major sacrifices in the interest of everyone and in support of our amazing NHS and other public servants. It is a small price to pay, I believe. In the Council we have had to close our offices, to protect our staff, and cancel all meetings. Many of those meetings are legal requirements and we are currently awaiting guidance from Central Government on these. Our Clerk, Katherine Kane, remains working albeit in isolation. Both the Clerk, myself and the Chair of the Resource, Policy & Strategy Committee (who deal with staffing and finance) are in daily contact and are able to make some decisions on the day to day matters. Can I say, the response of our local community to this situation is heart-warming and we should be proud of this. I would also thank our Ward Councillors across Myland for their support and efforts within the community. It is at times like this when we appreciate the local doctors surgeries, shop keepers and pharmacists, who work on regardless. When this situation ends, I think we should look back and realise we have rediscovered our community spirit and neighbourliness towards others and that has to be a positive thing. Finally, on behalf of our Councillors it is our sincere hope that you and your families stay safe and healthy.
