Mylander - Issue 84
10 Council Reports Ultimately, the health and well being of visitors to the Fete and those involved in running it is our priority and we are sure cancellation is the correct course of action. We are already making plans for next year’s fete with the hope that it will be even bigger and better than ever. Cllr Marina de Smith Myland Access Group Well, that certainly wasn’t what we expected over the last three months! We had been planning litter picks, walks, path clearances, refurbishing and replacing signposts, as well as surveying the network of 30 footpaths - and two bridleways. It has, however, provided many of us with ample opportunities to explore and discover some of the beautiful areas in and around Myland. If you are new to the area, the three main areas good for walking are Highwoods Country Park, the area between Bergholt Rd and Mile End Road and Tower Lane, which goes from the football stadium to Mill Road, or on to Severalls Lane. If you fancy going a bit further afield, the Colchester Orbital goes right through Myland – you can see it here: https://www.walkcolchester.org.uk/the-colchester-orbital You can see a map of these and many other paths by going to: https://www.essexhighways.org/transport-and-roads/interactive-maps-and-live-travel- information/highways-information-map.aspx You will need to accept the terms and conditions, and after zooming in on north Colchester you can now select “Assets” under Map Categories on the left hand side of the map. Don’t tick the box next to Assets – unless you want to know where every lamppost and bus stop is! Just click next to the word Assets, and then you will be able to select “Public Rights of Way”. By clicking on one of the red lines you will be able to see details about each bridleway and footpath, the name of the parish and district (Borough), as well as the length, number and type of the Public Right of Way.
