Mylander - Issue 84

8 Council Reports Planning & Highways Committee We have had two onlinemeetings of our Committee and both went well. Planning applications are now getting back to pre-COVID lockdown levels, so keeping us busy. On the Kingswood Heath (old Severalls Hospital) estate, the mixed-use site has now received planning permission for the Co-op store and Busy Bees Nursery. The overall building work has reached the point where monies are now due to Colchester Borough for the Community Building, which will be sited adjacent to Camulos Academy, (currently a temporary drop off car park). It will be for Colchester Borough Council to appoint contractors for this build, although the Consortium has financed the construction through S106 money. We hope to work with the Borough Council on fitting out this building. Other planning news includes an application for the vacant land south of Cambian Fairview Home (old St Paul’s Hospital), Boxted Road, to build 26 homes. This was already granted back in 2017, but the applicants are now seeking outline planning permission, which will give them more scope. Two further applications in relation to the Chesterwell Development have been received. One is for the commercial centre off Cordelia Drive for another Co-op Store and offices; the other relates to additional homes being built. Our Committee were also happy to support an application to extend the 20mph speed limit to the entire Braiswick Park Estate and the installation of ‘speed cushions’ on Tufnell Way. As many of you will know, our Council takes a great interest in Public Rights of Way and designated footpaths. The recognised experts are our Myland Access Group (MAGS) and their Chair, Cllr Robert Johnstone.
