Mylander - Issue 85

14 Council Reports Myland & Braiswick Neighbourhood Plan Review This Plan was adopted by Colchester Borough Council in December 2016. It was built on our residents responses to a survey we sent to every home. Because Neighbourhood Plan policies are ‘material considerations’ in planning law and hence influential, their production has to follow strict rules. We at Myland Community Council, together with our neighbours at Boxted Parish Council, were the first in the whole of Essex to have our Plans accepted. We knew our area would still be in the midst of ongoing development for several years to come and decided that we would review the Plan at five-yearly intervals. Our first review is therefore due in 2021. We are however doing some early groundwork to set up a Steering Group and necessary liaison lines, including a Borough Council Officer. The Review will result in one of the following: • A Plan with minor changes that is deemed not to require independent examination. • A Plan that has changes significant enough to warrant independent examination but not a full-scale local referendum. • A Plan that has changed considerably and will require independent examination and a local referendum. I fully expect that we will seek residents views again, after all we have welcomed many new residents in the last five years. My aim will be to keep you all updated with our progress and to encourage everyone to respond to consultation exercises. The heart of the current Plan is community quality of life and we will want to carry on building on that with your help. Cllr Pete Hewitt
