Mylander - Issue 85

15 Churches The Well Methodist Church As we write we have not re-opened The Well Methodist Church for Sunday worship. However, as it is very likely that we will have to live with the coronavirus for a long time, we think that it is necessary to look at ways we can open up our premises. This will be considered at our Church Council on 22nd October. Any changes will be on our website (www.thewell-myland.org.uk) . At the moment we continue to provide a home for the Rainbow Preschool and support the work of MakeLunch Myland. Although we did not have a Harvest Festival Service, we supported Colchester Foodbank with gifts of food and money. Also, in November, we normally have a Caring Service and ask the community for donations to three local charities: Beacon House Ministries (an agency for the homeless in Colchester), Next Chapter (formerly Women’s Aid) and Colchester Night Shelter. We do not know if this will go ahead, but we will not be able to receive gifts of second-hand clothing this year and would encourage supporters to contact the charities directly. We are still unable to hold our charity Coffee Mornings but, in November, we normally receive shoe boxes to support Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse). We are being encouraged that if we cannot pack a shoe box to be collected locally, then to pack one on- line! If anyone would like more details or assistance then contact Sandra Jones (telephone 853594 or email [email protected] ) who is willing to help. The use of technology for us to meet online has increased and this mode of meeting together will continue. Our YouTube channel (search for Colchester Methodists) gives all the details. And we continue to pray for our community and if we can help with prayers or practical support, please do get in touch and let us know. We close with a prayer: Loving God, We thank you for our community in this part of Colchester - for the kind people who help us, the good things which happen and all the help and support we find here. Make us aware of the needs of others, particularly those who live near us and show us how we can help and support them sensitively. These are uncertain times, but assure us that each one of us is loved and valued by you. Amen Keith and Di Thompson (tel: Col 844252, email: [email protected] )
