Mylander - Issue 86
14 Council Reports Community Engagement Committee Although we’ve sadly had to cancel recent events such as the Bulb / Tree Giveaway and the Boxing Day Walk, due to coronavirus restrictions, we are working on some exciting new initiatives, some of which will be launching soon. The council is planning a community hopper bus to link the different parts of Myland not currently served by public transport. We’re looking for people interested in being volunteer drivers (training will be provided) – see the article for details on how to apply. We‘re inviting you to sign up for our new monthly council e-newsletter ‘News Update,’ which will update you on events and activities between issues of the Mylander. Please do sign up to keep in touch with your community - due to GDPR you need to sign up for this even if you have previously signed up for council emails in the past. SIGN UP HERE We are launching our new ‘Seed Giveaway’ in collaboration with Together We Grow, which will build on the success of our bulb and tree giveaways. This project will provide support to those new to gardening and will bring people taking part together through online meetings and later at the Community Garden in Highwoods Country Park (restrictions permitting). Read the Seed Giveaway article to find out how to register. The council is introducing a new youth achievement award ‘Pride of Myland,’ which will celebrate the contribution our young people make in the community. We will be sending information about this award to local schools and youth / community groups, who will help nominate entries. You can find out more in the articles in this issue and stay updated through our council website, social media and e-newsletter. As members of the Community Engagement Committee, we want to engage with residents across our growing community. Residents are welcome to attend our meetings, which are held on the second Monday of each month (these are currently held via Zoom, see the council website for joining details).
