Mylander - Issue 86

Council Reports Health & Wellbeing Working Group Thank you to all our residents who responded to our recent Health & Wellbeing Survey – we will publish a full report on the survey findings in the next issue of the Mylander. Your responses are really important, as they are helping us develop the council’s first Health & Wellbeing Plan, which will identify key priority areas so that we can better support residents, for example this includes providing training or support for specific issues such as mental health. We want to ensure we are an inclusive and accessible community, and the survey and plan will help us meet the needs of different groups of residents. COVID-19 has obviously had a big impact on our lives, and the survey was able to trace how activities and habits have changed as a result. As a council we collaborate with other local councils and with those further afield through regional and national council associations, and this provides an important opportunity to learn what is going on elsewhere and to share best practice. This year we plan to appoint dedicated mental health and dementia champions to drive forward our work in these areas in the community. Much of our health and wellbeing work is being carried out in schemes or projects with colleagues across the council or in the community. We are building on the council’s strong track record on environmental issues with the new ‘Seed Giveaway.’ It aims to address health & wellbeing issues by encouraging residents to grow food and build a sense of community amongst those taking part. Our new youth achievement award (Pride of Myland) will also recognise the efforts of our young people on issues such as protecting the environment, helping others in the community and valuing health and wellbeing. If you’re interested in health and wellbeing issues, and have any views or suggestions, please get in touch with us. The Health & Wellbeing Working Group is also open to residents who have an interest in this topic. If you would like to join a future meeting (these are currently held by Zoom), please email: [email protected] Cllr Jocelyn Law Chair, Health &Wellbeing Working Group 15
