Mylander - Issue 86
5 Chairman’s Report First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and, of course, sincerely wish all of you will find it better than 2020. At the end of November last year our Chairman, John Stewart, resigned from the Council. All of us recognised John’s commitment and dedication to the Council’s aims and objectives. Maintaining focus, especially as Chairman, on the needs and aspirations of an ever-growing Community is challenging. We have much to thank him for. An example of his achievements is his work to ensure that the history of the Severalls Hospital site is known and respected. The detailed interpretation board and the new memorial garden to honour those from the Hospital, who perished in the two World Wars, is a testament to that dedication. In particular, his initiative to establish a ‘village green’ at the Rugby Club site on Mill Road, will be a lasting legacy to his desire to bring welcome features to the Parish for all to enjoy. I am sure I speak for all, when I thank him and wish him the very best for the future. For the time-being I am now Chairman again and Cllr Alison Jay is Vice Chair. Cllr Robert Johnstone has become Chair of our Planning and Highways Committee in place of John. Whilst the Council has managed to carry on business via Zoom meetings, I still find business easier to progress through ‘round the table’ meetings and I very much hope it won’t be too long before we can do that again. We have a lot we wish to do and with such a willing and capable set of Cllrs, there is much we can do, for example; • We have laid the foundations for the Neighbourhood Plan Review, which will gather momentum throughout the year; • Greening the Parish has started with some planters and much spring bulb planting and we are now looking at the next phase; • Our community health and well-being survey results will be analysed and actioned; • We will progress John Stewart’s initiatives; • We will further develop the on-line Myland Mapping to have an App version; • When we can we will continue to provide guided monthly short walks to encourage us all to get out and about around Myland; • We shall begin deploying defibrillators across Myland;
