Mylander Issue 87

11 Council Reports Like many communities, we have been thinking about how to mark the effects of the pandemic. You may have heard of the new National Memorial Arboretum woodland, which will form a living memorial for those who have lost their lives. Through Myland Community Council’s ‘greening the Parish’ activities, we are planning to use planting at different sites around the parish, to provide places of reflection for those who have been impacted in any way by the pandemic. Plans are at an early stage, but we will consult with residents on the design and implementation of the scheme. Initial planning will start in the autumn, but if you do have any views please do get in touch. We are always keen to engage with members of the community. Residents are welcome to attend our meetings, which are held on the second Monday of each month (please check the website for meeting information / location beforehand). You can also get in touch with our committee by email about any of our activities: [email protected] . We look forward to hearing from you. Cllr Jocelyn Law Chair, Community Engagement Committee Seed Giveaway – Together we Grow at Home 2021 Cllr Jocelyn Law gives an update on a scheme where residents are growing food at home. Myland Community Council is collaborating with Together We Grow, (a local not-for-profit social enterprise), on a new Seed Giveaway – Grow at Home scheme during spring and summer 2021. Fifty residents registered for the scheme and are being contacted by Together We Grow so that they can choose from a variety of seed pack options. As well as being able to grow herbs, salad vegetables, tomatoes and corn, there was also the opportunity to choose chilli and aubergines. The scheme is aimed at welcoming people who may not have any gardening experience or no outside space.
