Mylander Issue 87
6 Myland Community Council : Caring For Where We Live In past issues of The Mylander, we have looked at what Myland Community Council are doing to “Green the Parish” and improve the quality of life where we live. Part of this includes keeping an eye on the areas and items (‘assets’) that the Council looks after. What we do Salt bins - We keep a register of salt bins owned by us and make sure they are in good repair and kept filled, as part of the Essex Salt Bin Partnership. Bus shelters - We keep a record of MCC owned bus shelters and use contractors to ensure they are kept in good repair and cleaned regularly. Enhancing the environment - We use contractors to keep new planters re-planted in spring and autumn, and regularly watered. We use a gardener to keep the Nayland Road office, Community Garden and War Memorial neat and in good condition. We employ a Street Officer, Herbert Duin, who takes on the role of regular routes around Myland and Braiswick, litter picking and reporting issues such as overflowing bins, broken fences, graffiti etc. He works 30 hours a week and can be seen out and about by residents in an MCC Hi-Vis vest. He is always happy to chat to residents about his work. Myland Access Group, headed by Councillor Robert Johnson, looks after our Public Rights of Way and footpaths ensuing they are kept tidy, litter free and clear of overgrowth. We work in partnership We work closely with the very pro-active Colchester Borough Council Zone 3 Neighbourhood Team, who focus on our local area and can clear up fly-tipping, dog fouling, graffiti/overflowing bins.
