Mylander Issue 87
8 Council Reports whilst they face immense fundraising pressure in the current situation. Although these grants cannot be used towards overheads and expenses, we can consider any applications for capital expenditure. Recent successful applications include to Highwoods Country Park based Together We Grow, towards a community bus and a container for storage, car park repairs at Myland Parish Hall and outdoor play equipment at New Braiswick Park School. Grants can be of any size and for 2021/22 we have available a budget of £5,000 for local Health and Well-being projects and £5,000 for community activities, so please contact the Clerk or myself for further information. Cllr Alison Jay Chair Resource, Policy & Strategy Committee Myland Hopper Bus Myland Community Council has been working with Community360 to develop a new community hopper bus service, to link parts of the community not served by existing public transport routes. You can give feedback on planning the route, or volunteer as a driver! How the service will operate Community360 will manage driver recruitment, training and vehicle provision. Myland Community Council is part-subsidising the service and helping plan the suggested route. Originally the new service was aimed at being operational in late spring, but due to restrictions this year the service is now likely to start in late summer. The service will link residents east-west across the parish, connecting residents with venues and facilities such as the Northern Gateway Sports Park area, Chesterwell (with a new Co-op supermarket and other retail units due to open), New Braiswick Park, Mill Road, Nayland Road, Mile End Road and Turner Road, with a finish at St John’s and Highwoods Community Centre, (with access to the post office and cafe). Initially the service will run two days a week, off-peak at regular intervals, with the hope of expansion if there is sufficient demand. If you want to give feedback on the new service, please email:
[email protected] or phone: 01206 853400. Updates will be included on the Council’s website, Facebook page and e-newsletter, as well as future issues of the Mylander.
