Mylander - Issue 88
10 Council Reports Entered by Myland Community Primary School The judges said: ‘We were really impressed with Olivia’s thoughtfulness and the amount of her own time she gave up to help others – well done!’ Amelia Jennings – Rock Snake Health & Wellbeing category Amelia wrote: ‘During lockdown, when I was stuck indoors, I decided to paint rocks to keep myself occupied. I then came up with the idea to create a Covid-19 rock snake line. I chose a suitable place to start it on my housing estate and put up a poster advertising it. It grew a lot of interest and people in all different age groups took part. Members of the local community got thinking and were very creative designing and drawing their own rocks. ‘This activity was great for mental wellbeing, as it kept everyone active; they got their daily exercise to go and add their rock to the line. Some people just liked to go and view the colourful rocks and see how long the line had grown. ‘In total over 100 rocks were added, I eventually collected them all up and varnished them. They now have a home in my primary school playground (Camulos Academy) as a reminder of these difficult times.’ The judges said: ‘We loved Amelia’s creativity and how she decided to make this into a community activity that brought people together. Great work! We are pleased that it’s now got a new home and will help mark the events of this year.’
