9 Council Reports Pride of Myland Youth Award – celebrating the young people of Myland Our new council youth award was created to shine a spotlight on the fantastic contribution our children and young people make in their schools and communities. Our young people are an important part of our community, and the award is part of our commitment to supporting young people to become active and engaged citizens. The judges, Councillor Pete Hewitt and Councillor Gary Braddy, want to thank everyone who submitted an entry: “We really enjoyed reading about your activities. Congratulations to our winners (who chose from a variety of voucher options) and those awarded highly commended certificates.” Joint first prize winners of the 8 – 11 years age category: Olivia Field – Curzon cinema vouchers Amelia Jennings – Colchester Zoo vouchers First prize winner of the 4 – 7 years age category: Arthur Ryland (Colchester Zoo vouchers) Olivia Field – Helping my local community ‘Helping others in the community’ category Olivia wanted to do something to not only help the elderly neighbours in her local community, but also something to bring a smile to their faces after such a difficult year. She spent the 2021 Easter holidays baking and delivering delicious treats to her elderly neighbours and also offering to help doing odd jobs. Olivia’s efforts were very much appreciated by her local community - she received lots of thank you cards, messages and even gifts as they were so touched at the thought of what she had done, especially as she had given up her own time to help others.
