Mylander - Issue 89
From inside the community Sadly, at the start of this meeting, members held a minute’s silence for Doreen Carter, who had passed away earlier in the week. Isobel paid tribute to Doreen, who had been a Member of the W.I. for about seventy years and had been one of our much-loved founder members. She was a very talented lady who regularly amused us by reading a humorous poem at the end of our meetings. She will be greatly missed by us all. Future meetings include Dorothy O’Grady showing us ways with wrapping, a Christmas meal out and in January, Carrie Ransomwill give a talk on ‘Aches and Pains - causes and prevention’. As always, why not come along and try the W.I? Meetings are held on the first Friday in Highwoods Community Centre at 7.30pm and it would be great to welcome YOU! Sandra Jones Myland Mother’s Union At last, we are able to meet again and we had our first meeting in September. Rev Sarah Hayward spoke to us about her work as a Pioneer Minister on the Chesterfield Estate. This month we packed Shoeboxes for the Samaritan’s Purse Appeal. In November, we shall either have a speaker or discuss what we see is the future of M.U. December, of course, will be our Carol Service in St Michael’s Church, followed by a celebration Tea in the Church Hall. It will be really great to get back into the old routine. All our meetings start at 2.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month from February and everyone, male or female, is welcome to join us. Why not come along and give us a try? June Chandler M.U.
