Mylander - Issue 89

Council Reports 8 Myland Access Group We hope you have had a good summer – different wasn’t it? Slowly but surely we might be returning to some sort of normality! One of the activities that kept us going during the summer months was the LSW – Last Saturday Walks, which have been continuing every month (on the last Saturday of course!) throughout the year. Always starting at the War Memorial on Braiswick Lane opposite St Michael’s Church at 10am. We’ve been down to Bergholt Rd, along side Colchester Golf club and explored Chesterwell Woods, and always enjoyed a pleasant natter with our friends and neighbours. Why not join us one of these Last Saturdays – bring your dog (or your kids) too? Apart from December of course, when the Boxing Day Walk returns, after being so rudely interrupted by the strengthened covid regulations, which were imposed on Boxing Day last year. You don’t need petrol, just the get up and go! So please join us for a pleasant stroll around the boundaries of Myland. Mostly following public footpaths and visiting Tower Lane, Highwoods Country Park, Bergholt Rd Recreation and the golf course. As mentioned above, (and probably elsewhere in this issue), the Boxing Day walk will be on Saturday 26th December starting at 10am at the Myland Parish Halls – just across the road from the War Memorial. This is a fundraising event which has been held every year for the last twenty years or so, rasing money for local good causes. The route that we take follows the parish boundary (give or take the odd obstruction like the A12!), and is approximately six and half miles long – and takes around two and a half hours. It is free to come on the walk, although donations would be most gratefully received on behalf of Young at Heart! There will be also a raffle (with the usual fantastic prizes!), dogs and children welcome! If you’ve never been on this walk, it is a great way to meet your neighbours, discover shortcuts and different walking routes as well as getting rid of some of the excesses of Christmas!
