23 From inside the community Colchester Countryside Volunteer Rangers Our annual Christmas buffet was held at the Prettygate pub for the CCVR volunteers, Big Garden (Together We Grow) folks, and of course the hard-working High Woods Country Park Rangers. A huge thank you to Lisa for providing such an amazing spread — unfortunately our numbers were well down, but it was still an enjoyable evening and quite a few people got to take home a doggy bag. Our New Year’s Day walk was very successful; on a lovely sunny morning about 50 people attended, and about 30 of those came back for the refreshments being served in the Visitor’s Centre. For £5 they could have a sausage or cheese and onion roll a mince pie and either mulled wine or spiced fruit punch. All of these items were supplied by some of our local supermarkets and a huge thank you to the following: • Ellis - Mile End, Co-op • Elaine - Asda, Turner Rise • Marie - Tesco, Highwoods Not forgetting, of course, another huge thank you to Ranger Nicola and her husband for leading the walk and all the volunteers who assisted during it, as well as in the Visitor’s Centre preparing the refreshments.
