Sutton Sutton has a population of over 204,000. The health of people in Sutton is generally better than for England overall, with higher life expectancy than the rest of the country, though there is wide variation within the borough. There are several challenges facing health and care services in Sutton that we are focussing on to improve the lives of local people. Some of the key challenges that are affecting the ability of people to start well, live well and age well in Sutton are highlighted below. • Improving the mental health of young people. • Supporting parents of children and young people with special educational needs. The rate of hospital admissions as a result of self-harm among 10- 24 year olds in Sutton is above the London average (but similar to England) of Sutton school pupils have a special educational need (lower than the London average) 12% Estimated 8.5% of young people aged 5-16 years have a mental health condition people have developed a long-term condition Around 65,000 increase in people with a learning disability need by 2030. The largest increase will be in people aged 85 years and over Predicted 19% of adults in Sutton are physically active 70% people consult their GP because they are lonely 1 in 5 59% of people who use social care services, and 72% of adult carers, say they do not get as much social contact as they would like Delayed transfers of care from hospital have reduced significantly • Supporting adults with learning disabilities. • Encouraging adults to make healthy lifestyle choices. • Combating loneliness and social isolation among older people. • Supporting older people when they leave hospital.
