22 Issue No. 43 In May 1982, during the Falklands Conflict, 63 Squadron RAF Regiment landed at San Carlos attached as it was at the time to 5 Infantry Brigade. The Squadron’s mission was to provide short-range air defence for the Harrier Forward Operating Base at Port San Carlos. Shortly after the Argentinian surrender on 14 June 1982, the Squadron’s officers held a dinner in a Basic Shelter at their base at Black Eagle camp. This year is the 44th anniversary of the end of the Falklands Conflict and the Squadron officers, joined on this occasion by their wives, held a Black Eagle Dinner Reunion at The Swan at Streatley. During the afternoon they took a short cruise on the River Thames, recalling their three-week voyage on the QE2 to the Falkland Islands back in 1982. In the evening the officers and their wives held a formal dinner followed by the taking of port which had been bottled in 1982. The following morning, 14 June 2026, the officers and their wives attended the annual thanksgiving service at the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel, Pangbourne.
