Brentwoodian 2022

We have had a great cohort of tennis players this year who have all performed exceptionally well. Our A-C Teams have all competed in the Essex Schools Team Tennis Events and our U13 Boys’ B Team won the Division 2 title last summer. The teams all performed very well in the inaugural Essex Independent Schools Championships and we have competed in a range of block fixtures against Sevenoaks, Felsted and Bancroft’s to name a few. The most notable performance across all age groups for the School this year was at the Independent Schools Championships with our U13 Girls’ team. Edie Griffiths and Daisy Edwards won our first national tennis title at Eton College with a number of epic victories against Wimbledon High, St Anne’s and Sevenoaks. The title was won in a match tie-break against Queenswood School who had several opportunities to clinch the title. Edie and Daisy showed great resilience and determination to hold on and win 11-9 in a nail-biting finale. Our U12 Tennis Captain, Alice Christie, has written a summary of her first year at Brentwood School in the tennis team: This year in Tennis, I have really enjoyed all of the matches that I have played. I have been provided with so many tennis opportunities this year and I have really enjoyed representing the School in this way. I have especially enjoyed the double matches that I have played for different year groups, as it has given me opportunities to play with and against others of different ages and abilities. I am very thankful for the opportunity to play in the “Road to Wimbledon” competition, as although I did not manage to pass through the school stage, I was very proud of getting far enough in the Year 7 round to then play a Year 8 in the school rounds.
