Brentwoodian 2022

3RD XI Brentwood School’s 3rd XI were a joy to coach and be around during season 2021/22. Ranging from brilliant leadership, work ethic, responsibility from the boys, to absolute team togetherness. Our Captain, Sam Pepper, and Vice-Captain, Lewis Smith, captured everything good about Brentwood School’s ethos. Our performances throughout 2021/22 were superb with a win ratio of 69.44%. Losing only two games vs OB’S and two vs gifted U16 A teams. One particular fixture vs Wilson’s School epitomised much about the team’s spirit and determination not to lose, as they drew 3-3 equalising with the last kick of the game, fantastic!! When the team did lose their heads never dropped. One memory was our game against a very good Bishop’s Stortford U16A side eventually losing the match 3-2. The boys did not give up with Archie Flashman scoring a superb goal straight from the kick-off with a thunderbolt shot from the halfway line. Even when I was not able to attend a match against another very good U16A Leatherhead School, Brentwood conducted themselves brilliantly playing superbly and competing all over the pitch. My thoughts for Coach’s Player of the Year were divided between a superb Captain, Sam Pepper and Archie Flashman, whose season flourished. The Players’ Player was Thibaud Mathieson, providing a solid and consistent season throughout. I can honestly say in my time not only coaching, but as a parent at Brentwood School that these particular 3rd XI boys were a credit to our School in every way. By Mark Woodcock 89
