Brentwoodian 2022

"cutting in from the right 20 yards out and hitting the underside of the bar and going in" The 2021-22 football season was hugely successful for the U15 age group, where there were a number of impressive performances, both from a team and individual perspective. Whilst the U15A side can be slightly disappointed with how their ISFA and Essex cup runs ended, they showed their consistency in winning their respective Elgin league, which meant a home draw in the semi-final. The team defeated Charterhouse 2-1, to set up a final with a very strong Bede’s team. Unfortunately this was one game too far for the group, with the final score being 3-1 to the opposition. The Elgin league is one of the strongest school football competitions in the country, therefore the team can be proud of their achievements. Captain, Joseph Payne, had an outstanding season, which culminated in himbeing selected for the ISFA national team. The U15B, C and D teams also had positive seasons, where there were some notable victories against Forest School, St John’s (Leatherhead), Wilson’s School and Bedford Modern. In total, over 60 students represented the School, which bodes well as this age groupmoves into senior football. The U15 girls’ teamwas equally impressive, where they had an excellent run in the ESFA cup, reaching the last 64 teams in the country. After a bye in round 2, they went on to defeat Bower Park academy on penalties, and followed up with a big win against Greig City Academy. Round 5 saw them come up against a very strong Fitzwimarc where, despite a huge effort from the whole team, they exited the competition. The girls responded in the ISFA regional league, where they defeated Alleyn’s School to finish the season strong. Captain, Lois Hall, was outstanding throughout the year, and not only was she selected for the ISFA national squad, she was made Captain of the team in their fixture against Wales. OVERVIEW 91
