The Big Pitch 2023

| 9 Health Education England Health Education England (HEE) is the national body responsible for the education and training of the healthcare workforce in England. On the 1st April 2023 we will merge into the new NHS England. Although our name is changing our responsibilities will remain. Our aim is to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and health improvement to the patients and public of England by ensuring that there are right numbers of the workforce for today and the future with the skills, values and behaviours, at the right time and in the right place. Advances in medicine, technology and digitisation are having a significant impact on the expectations and roles of those working in the system. We all expect our health workforce, especially clinicians to deliver high quality safe care which is underpinned by digital technologies. We also expect our professionals to drive innovations in all aspects of their practice and the health service. We are supporting our workforce by creating an education and training system that is evidence based and underpinned by digital and innovation. We also need to help build the capacity and capability of our current and future workforce to embrace and actively engage with research, digital and innovation. That is why we are so supportive of the NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur programme. This programme has now helped over 1000 frontline NHS staff to develop commercial skills, knowledge and experience to help transform patient care through innovation. By working with commercial mentors and gaining industry experience they are also increasing their digital and technology readiness. There are many new and growing opportunities to utilise digital technologies in the delivery of education for our future workforce and we look forward to working with our Clinical entrepreneurs and seeing the cutting-edge products from the programme that continue to push the boundaries of innovation and challenge us to explore the possible. As a working mother the CEP is relatively flexible and still allows me to pursue my career aspirations and innovations alongside holding down my role as a mother to young children. That is incredibly valuable.
